Chemical Peel Contraindications (Please Read Before Booking)

Please do not book if any of the following apply. Treatment will be deferred until safe and appropriate.

A) Medical Conditions & Skin Health

• Pregnancy & breastfeeding — Chemical peels are not performed at our clinic during this time.
• Active illness or fever — You must be fully recovered and symptom-free for at least 3 days prior to treatment.
• Active cold sores/herpes (HSV) — Must be fully healed with 7–10 consecutive symptom-free days.
• Skin infection (bacterial, viral, fungal) — Must be fully resolved with 7 symptom-free days.
• Open cuts, wounds, or broken skin — Must be fully healed.
• Sunburn or irritated skin — Must be fully healed for at least 14 days.
• Excessive UV exposure or tanning bed use — Within the last 14 days.
• Active eczema, dermatitis, or rosacea flare-up — Must be fully resolved and skin must be stable for a minimum of 2 weeks.
• Compromised or sensitized skin barrier (burning, stinging, over-exfoliation, persistent redness) — Must be fully restored (typically 2–4 weeks).
• Severely inflamed, cystic, or painful acne flare-up — Skin must be calm, stable, and not actively inflamed.
• Undiagnosed skin lesions, rashes, or suspicious changes — Medical clearance required.
• Skin cancer or active suspicious lesions — Medical clearance required.

B) Medications & Medical Treatments

• Accutane (isotretinoin) use — Within the last 6–12 months (medical clearance required).
• Photosensitizing medications (e.g., doxycycline) — Current or recent use (medical clearance required).
• Chemotherapy or radiation therapy — Medical clearance required.
• Autoimmune skin conditions — Active or unstable (medical clearance required).
• History of keloid or abnormal scarring — Caution advised; medical clearance recommended.

C) Recent Aesthetic Procedures

• Chemical peel — Within the last 4 weeks.
• Laser, IPL, or skin resurfacing — Within the last 4 weeks.
• Microneedling — Within the last 2–4 weeks.
• Dermal fillers — Within the last 14 days.
• Waxing or threading in the treatment area — Within the last 7 days.
• Botox/neuromodulators — Within the last 5–7 days.
• Facial treatments or intensive exfoliation — Within the last 5–7 days.
• Depilatory creams in the treatment area — Within the last 5 days.
• Cosmetic tattooing (microblading, lip blush, eyeliner) — Within the last 4–6 weeks or until fully healed.
• Facial surgery — Within the last 6 months or until fully healed.

D) Skincare Actives & Topical Products

• Retinoids (retinol, tretinoin, adapalene) — Used within the last 5–7 days.
• Exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs, PHAs, glycolic, salicylic, lactic, mandelic) — Used within the last 5–7 days.
• Strong or high-strength vitamin C serums — Used within the last 3–5 days (if sensitivity-prone).

E) Lifestyle & Treatment Readiness

• Recent excessive sun exposure.
• Inability or unwillingness to follow aftercare instructions, specifically regarding strict sun avoidance post-treatment.

F) Allergies & Sensitivities

• Known allergy or sensitivity to AHAs, BHAs, salicylates, or peel ingredients.
• History of extreme photosensitivity or severe sun reactions — Medical clearance required.
